Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike most Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) there is no buy-in or entrance fee to live at Saint Simeon’s—just a small admission fee upon acceptance. There is no lease, your commitment is month-to-month. Rent is paid a month in advance, and we simply request a 30-day notice of intent to vacate.

Saint Simeon’s is a non-profit, private pay facility. Long-term care insurance will reimburse you for a portion of the cost of assisted living or skilled nursing care, depending upon the details of your policy.

For short-term Skilled Nursing and Rehab, we accept Medicare, Community Care, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, VA/CCN, and UHC. And although we do accept Medicaid as a supplemental insurance for short-term rehab stays, we are not contracted with Medicaid for long-term care.

A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), sometimes called a “Life Plan Community” (LPC) is a community that provides on-site health services including Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Short-Term Skilled Nursing and Rehab, and Memory Care, if needed. Saint Simeon’s has Memory Care at both a long-term care level and an assisted living level. In addition, Saint Simeon’s houses all levels of care under one roof, so all areas of our community are easily accessible via wide, well-lit hallways. Unlike other CCRCs, Saint Simeon’s does not require an expensive buy-in or endowment, just a small admission fee upon acceptance.

If you have lived at Saint Simeon’s for at least two years, you can apply for our Resident Benevolence Fund. However, we cannot guarantee funds will be available when you apply. If funds are not available, our discharge planner will assist you in finding placement in another private pay community, or if needed, one that is contracted with Medicaid for long-term care.

Pets are not allowed to live here, but they can visit anytime! Just provide a current vaccination record for our files. We also have regular visits from therapy dogs from Paw Pals and the SPCA.

We request a medical history and clinical information from your physician. Once we have that information, placement into the appropriate level of care will be determined by an assessment conducted by our interdisciplinary team. If you or your loved one is eligible for Assisted Living, our nurse will complete an assessment to determine your Assisted Living level of care, which is based upon the number of direct care hours required per week.

Transportation services are provided at no cost for our VA residents and Skilled Nursing and Rehab patients. Transportation is provided for a small fee for private pay residents.

Yes. Medicare’s Hospice Benefit covers the cost of end-of-life care while your loved one continues to live in their home here. Our staff collaborates with the hospice team to meet needs and provide extra support for both your loved one and your family. Saint Simeon’s is contracted with Seasons, Miller, and Compassus, but you are free to use the hospice of your choice.

Yes. Dr. Arvid Lade, MD, is our Medical Director. Unless you specify otherwise, Dr. Lade can become your loved one’s new PCP when they move in to Saint Simeon’s.

In addition to assistance with the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) these optional services are available on-site:

  • Wound Care
  • Mobile X-Rays
  • Medication Delivery from Pharmacy
  • Rehabilitative Therapies
  • Swallow Studies
  • Psychiatric/Mental Health Visits
  • Dentistry
  • Vision Care
  • Podiatry
  • Salon Services

I’ve heard that Saint Simeon’s is contracted with the VA for long-term care. How do I find out if my loved one qualifies for VA long-term care benefits?

Veterans who are signed up for VA Health Care and have an overall service-connected disability rating of 70% or more, or a single disability and unemployability qualify for this care. If you are unsure of your disability rating or have not yet applied for these benefits, your VA social worker can help you with this process. If you do not already have a social worker at the VA, call their toll-free hotline at 877-222-8387 Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET.

Once you know you qualify, ask your VA social worker to send us a referral. We will review your medical records to ensure we can meet your needs. Our referral fax number is 918-425-6368. Once we receive the referral our Admissions Team will review your information, check the authorization from the VA, and confirm room availability.

There are many reasons to consider a move to Assisted Living, and it is best to make the move before a health crisis makes it a necessity. It is an easier transition when it is planned for, however, if you have had an event that necessitated a hospital stay and then a short-term skilled nursing and rehab stay, that may be the perfect time to consider transitioning from skilled nursing to Assisted Living.

Here are three signs it may be time to consider a move to Assisted Living:

  1. You or your loved one needs help taking care of themself daily.
  2. Your loved one seems lonely and depressed.
  3. You have home safety concerns.

The benefits of a move to Assisted Living are many—social, chore-free living, no home maintenance, meals and housekeeping provided, and more. And because we offer the full spectrum of senior care, you can age in place seamlessly, maintaining the highest possible level of independence while receiving top-quality care.

All our staff are trained in caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, so we accept residents with dementia in every area of our community. But in some cases, your loved one may develop behaviors, like wandering or exit-seeking, that require a secure living environment. Assisted Living Memory Care is best for those who have these behaviors but are otherwise physically capable and don’t need total assistance with the activities of daily living. Long-Term Care Memory Care is best for those who need more direct care due to behaviors and require assistance with most activities of daily living.

Yes, friends and family are free to visit anytime. We do not have set visiting hours. We just ask that you are mindful of your loved one’s need for rest, as well as their fellow residents.

Saint Simeon’s is a non-profit, private pay facility and accepts applications to our retirement community from seniors 62 and above, and does not discriminate based on race, color, disability, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or national origin in its admissions practices.
