Carmen Fields presents “Going Back to T-Town”

Tulsa has deep roots in American jazz history and we’re celebrating that legacy right here in our Common Room.

Saint Simeon’s Senior Community is honored to host Carmen Fields on Monday, June 22nd at 2:00 p.m. Carmen is a veteran Boston journalist and the daughter of Ernie Fields, the Tulsa-based bandleader who led one of the most celebrated territory jazz orchestras of the 20th century.

Her book, Going Back to T-Town, is the story of her father’s remarkable life—from the dance halls of the Midwest and South to the Apollo Theater in New York, told largely in his own voice through the stories he shared with his children over the years.

For anyone who loves music, history, or the untold stories of Black American life and culture, this is an afternoon not to miss. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.
