VA-Contracted Long-Term Skilled Nursing
Services Included in VA Skilled Nursing
- 24/7 Clinical & Medical Care: Round-the-clock nursing supervision, medication management, and pain mitigation.
- Rehabilitative Therapies: Physical, occupational, and speech therapy can be integrated into individual care plans.
- Daily Activity Support: Complete assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and mobility.
- VA Qualification Basis: Requires VA healthcare enrollment, documented clinical necessity, local service availability, and VA disability ratings or authorizations.
Who Qualifies for Direct VA Long-Term Care?
Veterans who are signed up for VA Health Care and have an overall service-connected disability rating of 80% or more, or a single disability and unemployability qualify for this care. If you are unsure of your disability rating or have not yet applied for these benefits, your VA social worker can help you with the process. Call the VA’s toll-free hotline at 877-222-8387, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET.
Short-Term Skilled Nursing and Rehab for Veterans
Saint Simeon’s is also pleased to provide short-term skilled nursing rehabilitation to veterans through the VA Community Care Network. This transitional care provides Physical, Occupational, and/or Speech Therapy, as needed, to help you recover from injury or illness or simply get stronger. You can take advantage of this benefit after a hospital stay, directly from home, or as a resident of Saint Simeon’s.
Assisted Living Support via VA Aid & Attendance
For veterans who do not require 24/7 skilled nursing or who do not meet VA long-term care clinical thresholds, Aid and Attendance provides a vital financial foundation for assisted living.
What is the Aid & Attendance Benefit?
Aid & Attendance: Aid & Attendance is an enhanced monthly pension benefit paid directly to eligible wartime veterans and surviving spouses as a tax-free supplement for personal care.
Flexible Application: Monthly payments can be applied directly toward assisted living apartment fees, personal care assistance, and memory support at Saint Simeon’s.
Medical Expense Deduction: Assisted living fees and out-of-pocket medical care expenses offset countable income, making it easier for families to meet VA income guidelines.
2026 Monthly Aid & Attendance Benefit Rates
- Married Veteran: up to $2,874/month
- Single Veteran: up to $2,424/month
- Veteran Married to Veteran: up to $3,740/month
- Surviving Spouse: up to $1,558/month
Eligibility Checklist of Aid & Attendance
1. Military Wartime Service Requirements
Your military service must include at least 90 days of active duty with at least 1 day during an official wartime period (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War), and an honorable discharge.
2. Personal Care & Medical Need
If you need hands-on assistance with at least one Activity of Daily Living (bathing, dressing, eating, mobility), have cognitive impairment or severe visual impairment (5/200 visual acuity).
3. Financial & Income Guidelines
Countable income and net worth within VA-defined limits. Out-of-pocket medical and assisted living costs are deducted directly from gross income.
4. Benefits for Surviving Spouses
Unremarried surviving spouse married to the wartime veteran for at least 1 year prior to death and residing with veteran at passing.
