Can you picture your seasoned parent putting on boxing gloves, Rocky-style? Well, that's now happening twice a week at Saint Simeon's!
Saint Simeon's has a new class in the Wellness Center called "Sock it to Me!" Based off of a program developed for Parkinson's patients called "Rock Solid," the program helps build flexibility, speed, and strength through non-contact boxing. Not everyone in the program has Parkinson's. It's a beneficial and fun class, and our Residents love looking like Rocky!
When I recently visited the Sock it To Me class, six male Residents were having a great time boxing our Wellness Center staff members Mary, Matt, and Caitlin. We also have a punching bag where Residents can fully release any frustrations they may have!
So far, our two weekly classes (Monday and Friday at 2:15) are occupied completely by men. However, Mary Nole, Wellness Director, is working on starting a class just for the ladies!
A big thank you to Laurie Green, daughter of Resident John Cagle, who made a gift to purchase the new boxing equipment.
